Neuropsychological Assessments

At Brain Matters Assessment and Therapy, our neuropsychological assessments are designed to provide clarity and direction when cognitive, behavioral, emotional, or social/interpersonal concerns impact daily functioning.

We value most being able to provide meaningful results that capture optimal capacities and that extend far beyond scores earned on standardized tests. Our aim is to truly understand the whole person across contexts and life demands and to highlight pathways to make tangible gains. Because we never rely solely on numbers alone and incorporate a 360-degree view of all parts that contribute to a complete picture; we move beyond labels, diagnoses, and narrow categorizations to appreciate real people in real time and within the context of their strengths and potential.

What the Evaluation Process Involves

It can be expected that we will spend ample time ensuring that we fully assess and integrate any and all complexities and that we individualize each testing experience. We deliver reports that are comprehensive, clear, tailored, and detailed so that we can provide road maps of next steps to pursue. We guide the prioritization of goals so that the “to do list” is manageable and not overwhelming.

When is a Neuropsychological Assessment Recommended?

  • When clarity is needed that would not otherwise be achieved with the “naked eye” or with a brief screening
  • To clearly understand ‘where’ the difficulties may lie
  • When specific questions arise, such as:
    • School placement inquiries
    • Whether academic accommodations are warranted
    • Whether certain diagnoses should be considered
    • To guide what particular interventions might be needed
  • When a more cohesive ‘plan’ is necessary in order for the professionals/the team to have a clear context within which to understand the individual

A Good Assessment Should:

  • Answer the ‘why’ questions
  • Provide a context through which to understand an individual
  • Be understandable to all professionals who read it
  • Provide an actionable, tailored, real-world treatment plan

Personalized Collaborative Care

Rather than just handing over a report and “calling it a day,” we remain a part of your treatment team going forward — ensuring that needed interventions are properly cultivated and matched to the individual; and that progress is being made by collaborating with all professionals involved, including educating family members who offer support.
