Because we do not all learn in the same way, there are times when we need a more personalized approach to managing learning differences. While subject tutoring can be helpful, it does not target underlying cognitive, behavioral, or social issues that add to academic barriers. A tailored educational therapy approach will help to foster metacognition and academic success; educational therapists create customized plans, teach strategies for focus, organization, and self-advocacy.
There are also times when executive functioning help is needed. Executive functioning is your child’s brain ‘management system’ – the set of skills that helps with planning, organizing, time management, focus, impulse control, and task completion. These abilities allow students to think before they act, solve problems, adapt to challenges, and handle increasingly complex academic as well as social demands. We are here to help with the development of strong executive functioning skills that will make school, sports, friendships, and responsibilities more manageable so that students can learn to better navigate their ever-changing worlds and learn to ‘work smarter and not harder’.
